Major areas of study
The Master of Education consists of compulsory units and a specialisation of your choice. Select one of three specialisations: Educational Leadership, Educational Wellbeibng or Educational Research. With a curriculum tailored to your interest.
Units typically include written and/or oral assignments that match typical work tasks: reports, case studies, presentations, research studies and plans. Practical assessments ensure you graduate with key industry skills and knowledge. Each unit has its own website to keep you focused. Weekly activities, readings and case studies are laid out with step-by-step instructions. As the weeks progress and your knowledge deepens, you'll tackle increasingly sophisticated concepts and employ critical analysis.
Our intensive, seven-week study model comprises of six study periods per year, enabling you to start studying at a time that suits your existing work, family and life commitments.

- Recognition of formal and non-formal learning
Credit may be awarded to a student for formal learning (gained through full or partial achievement of an accredited qualification or course) or non-formal learning (that takes place through a non-accredited course or program of learning) completed at Southern Cross University or in other learning settings in Australia and/or overseas.

An application for advanced standing must be submitted so we can assess your prior learning. Please apply for advanced standing at the same time as you apply for admission into this course, because the amount of credit awarded will determine the sequence of units you will study.Go to course structure to see if specific advanced standing rules also apply to this course.
MySCU is a student's point of entry to a range of online services and resources that support study and student life. The portal includes unit learning sites and information sites where students can access resources, communication tools and useful links that are integral to their studies.
The web-based study environment Blackboard Learn delivers an advanced online learning environment for students and lecturers to communicate and collaborate through virtual meeting spaces, classrooms, and discussion boards. They can share files, presentations and applications. If a tutorial or lecture is recorded, students can view it afterwards.
Learning materials include the provision of unit information guides, study guides and readings. Students may need to purchase or access prescribed text books.
The Academic Skills team supports student learning by offering online and on-campus academic skills workshops, email, phone, and one-on-one support.
Equipment and facilities
All units can be undertaken online on standard computing equipment. Our multi-modal approach delivers content including video, audio, hands-on, practical exercises, and other media to suit all kinds of learners.

The minimum entry requirement for this course is:
- a four year Bachelor degree in Education from any Australian University, or equivalent, or
- an undergraduate degree and a fourth-year level teaching qualification from any Australian university, or equivalent.
To be eligible for the award of Master of Education a candidate must successfully complete eight (8) units (96 credit points), comprising:
- All units listed in Part A; and
- one (1) four (4) unit specialisation from Part B of the Schedule of Units attached to these Rules.
- a candidate who, while enrolled in the Master of Education, has successfully completed not less than four (4) units (48 credit points) being all units in Part A of the Schedule attached to these Rules, may elect to be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Education, following withdrawal from candidature for the Masters’ degree.

This course is offered fully online in part-time study mode (maximum of 6 units per year). This course is not CRICOS registered and therefore not suitable for international students wishing to study in Australia. Those who would prefer to study in Australia please refer to SCU International Study Options for onshore students for further information.
